The HISTORY of Alpine
Alpine Angus was established by Jim and Clare Delany in 1998 with the purchase of Pales Right on Line, a son of Premier Independence and Junior Champion at Sydney Show. The bull arrived before Alpine Angus had taken possession of the initial 150 acres of farm land purchased at Porepunkah.
From this rather irregular start to the stud industry Alpine moved quickly to secure females from established breeding families including Te Mania Lowan M118, Ardrossan Wilcoola Q6, Ardrossan Royal Lass R44, Carcass Plus Cow Jedda R31, and by purchasing a number of embryo packages. These early purchases and the later steady stream of females purchased between 1998 and 2004 including Te Mania Lowan R133, Te Mania Beeac U340, Ythanbrae New Design 036 W200 and groups of females purchased from the Woolamai and Cudgell Creek studs, enabled Alpine to hold its first on-farm bull and female sale at Rosewhite in Autumn of 2004. That sale which saw the top priced bull, Alpine Xtra Special, an 036 son out of NAQQ6 sell to Vermont Angus as a stud sire set the pattern for the successful bull and female sales that have followed.
On 31st March 2011, Alpine conducted its eighth annual on-farm bull and female sale at the Rosewhite on-farm sale complex selling 62 bulls to an average of $5,790 and 20 stud females representing a 100% clearance. The sale was conducted by Elders and Paull & Scollard with Michael Glasser as auctioneer. In the intervening period between the first on-farm sale in 2004 and 2011 Alpine has sold a series of bulls to other studs including the $20,000 Alpine Bradman, CGKB31, a Papa Equator son sold in 2008.
This infusion of Alpine Angus genetics into other stud herds, both established and emerging, reflects the strength of the Alpine Angus herd, its diversity and its marketability. However, the key to the Alpine Angus’ success is the continued and loyal support of commercial breeders, particularly those in north east Victoria, in the mountains, into southern New South Wales.
Alpine Angus is not shy to share its genetics with others. In 2012, as well as offering 60+ 18-24 month old bulls, will again offer a selection of elite females, of our own breeding. The Alpine Angus team is confident that those who purchase bulls and females bred and grown at Alpine will enjoy success.
