CHRIS OSWIN JOINS ALPINE ANGUS

Press Release: 'A New Face' - North East Farmer Dec 2011. Click Here for full story

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Oswin as the new Stud Manager at Alpine Angus. Chris commenced his employment on 7 November 2011 and will formally assume the role of Stud Manager when Willie and Joanne move from Porepunkah to their home in Glenrowan in early December.
The appointment of Chris to the position of Stud Manager at Alpine follows an extensive advertising campaign which was conducted in August – September of this year, which saw many high quality applicants of whom Chris was clearly the outstanding candidate.
Chris comes to Alpine Angus with 20 years experience in cattle breeding in the Angus breed and the Angus stud industry in particular. Chris is experienced with all facets of stud herd management and cattle farming. He originally completed a degree in Ag Science and has worked in different roles in the industry, in recent years managing a 1,000 head cow herd in South Australia targeted towards EU steer production and during the last five years in a management position at an Angus stud in Victoria. Chris has travelled extensively throughout the U.S. and Australia as well as last year to New Zealand, providing him with a valuable insight into the genetics that are available within the breed. Chris and his wife Elissa, have two young children and with Chris we have the added bonus that Elissa will be involved in the growing Kilnhouse business.
I would like to thank the clients and businesses associated with Alpine Angus who recommended people to apply for the Manager’s role and who have provided valuable assistance and input throughout the process of seeking to identify and employ appropriate successors to Willie and Joanne.
During November 2011 Chris and Willie will be involved in working together on our Spring AI and natural joining program and will endeavour to be in touch with and visit as many Alpine Angus clients and business contacts as time and other commitments permit. Chris is looking forward to joining the team at Alpine and building on the foundations which owe much to Willie’s skills, experience and judgment. Willie and Chris will be very busy during the changeover period as Tim Brown finally had his long awaited further knee surgery on Monday 7 November and will be off work for at least a couple of months.
I wish to express my thanks to Willie and Joanne who have contributed greatly to the success of Alpine Angus since the stud was established. When they move to Glenrowan Willie will be taking up a role with Agrigene and has decided not to take up the offer to continue in a formal role as adviser to Alpine Angus. We enjoy a close association with Agrigene through whom we market our Dinky-Di and Casino semen and who also market semen from Alpine Candybar. I wish Willie well in his new role and in the move that he and Joanne will make to Glenrowan in December.
In the new year we will again participate in Stock and Land Beef Week with the field day to be held on 30 January 2012. The 2012 field day will be held at Rosewhite. It will provide a good opportunity to view some of the 2012 sale bulls and females and a selection of our stud females. Please put it in your diary and come along.
Our 2012 Bull and Female Sale will be held at Rosewhite, on 29 March 2012. The 2012 sale will feature a number of 18 month – 2 year old bulls including bulls by Ardrossan Casino, Rito 6656, Rito 4D7 and Dinky-Di.
I look forward to catching up with you over the next couple of months whether at the field day or elsewhere with Chris and the convalescing Tim. I hope that you are enjoying rewards of a good Spring. At Alpine Angus we have been fortunate to lease some additional land at Rosewhite which we will take up to coincide with Chris’ arrival. The herd and genetics are in great shape and the outlook for the future with Chris at the helm, working with Tim, David and with me is both very positive and exciting.
Please give me a call on 0408 535 658 or email me on jdelany@vicbar.com.au if you would like any further information about Alpine Angus as we move into 2012.

Tim faces the Surgeon’s knife (again!)

Tim On Monday 7 November 2011 Tim had his long awaited further knee surgery, operated on by that well known Angus breeding surgeon, David Kirwan.  We wish Tim a successful outcome and a full recovery and look forward to having him back on board, hopefully in time for Christmas.

David returns from Long Service Leave

On 24 October 2011 David returned from long service leave. David took his leave after Willie returned from his long service leave and holidays so the timing and changeover worked well. Welcome back David who has already slipped easily and comfortably into the work environment. David is the key man on the Alpine Angus staff dealing with grapes grown at Porepunkah. From mid-2011 we have been fortunate to secure the advice and assistance of local winemaker, Mick Dalbosco to work in with David in managing the vineyard. When not engaged in the vineyard David is actively involved in all other aspects of the Alpine Angus business.
